CROCHET LE GRAN CHEMARIN SANCERRE

Product price

$38.99

Description

Grand Chemarin ranks among the top sites near the village of Bué. Composed entirely of the region’s pure limestone, known as Caillottes, it yields wines of vibrant acidity and striking minerality. The Crochets draw from select old-vine parcels for this cuvée, vinifying entirely in stainless steel to preserve the wine’s freshness and clarity. The nose shows grapefruit, apple blossom, and a touch of sea-spray salinity, while the palate’s lively acidity keeps each sip crisp and inviting. This is as pure an expression of Caillottes terroir as you could hope to find.

The 2024 Sancerre “le Grand Chemarin” from the Crochet brothers, Teddy and Cyprien, is a ringing success for the vintage. It comes in listed at thirteen percent octane and offers up a bright and youthful bouquet of lime, gooseberry, fresh-cut grass, citrus blossoms and a lovely base of chalky minerality. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, youthfully complex and nicely defined by its underlying minerality, with good acids and grip and a long, well balanced and zesty finish.

Certified Organic. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Hand harvested from the single-vineyard Le Grand Chemarin. Fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts.

Nestled deep in the hamlet of Bue lies the charming residence and impressively spotless, well-equipped winery of Domaine Dominique and Janine Crochet, with an underground cellar housing Hermitage and Centre France barrels of Pinot Noir and some single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc. After the untimely passing of their father Dominique, sons Teddy (a former Rugby player) and Cyprien, both 5th generation growers, now proudly manage this domaine with impressive holdings in Chene Marchand, Grand Chemarin, Champ Chene (“field of oaks”) and the extremely steep southeast-exposed vineyard La Cote de Bué.

The domaine was created in the 1890s by Maximin Crochet with only a few acres. Four generations later in 1982, Dominique and Janine and Dominique Crochet took the ownership and care of the domaine's 2 hectares. Teddy joined his mother in 2009 and Cyprien in 2016. Cyprien, wine-maker, did a stage with Etienne Sauzet in Puligny-Montrachet. Teddy did a stage with a grower in Santenay, Franck Guérin. All wines are entirely hand-harvested. Together the two brothers cultivate their land using sustainable farming methods, with a keen interest in biodynamic viticulture. For the past decade they used no chemicals; they are now fully certified Organic from the 2025 harvest
