Angel's Envy
is a popular, award-winning Kentucky Straight Bourbon known for its unique finishing process in ruby port wine barrels. This secondary maturation step sets it apart from traditional bourbons, adding a layer of complexity and sweetness.
The production process
- Mash Bill: Angel's Envy uses a mash bill of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley.
- Aging: The bourbon is typically aged for up to six years in new, charred American oak barrels.
- Port Finishing: It is then transferred to 60-gallon ruby port wine casks from Portugal for an additional three to six months. This finishing step adds distinct flavor nuances that complement the whiskey.
- Small Batches: The bourbon is hand-blended in small batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time to ensure a consistent and high-quality flavor profile.
Tasting notes
- Appearance: A gold color with reddish-amber hues, nearly copper in tone.
- Aroma: On the nose, you'll find notes of vanilla, raisins, maple syrup, and toasted nuts.
- Palate: The flavor profile includes vanilla, ripe fruit, maple syrup, toast, and bitter chocolate.
- Finish: It has a clean and lingering sweetness with a hint of Madeira that slowly fades.
How to enjoy
- Neat or on the rocks: The smooth, balanced profile of Angel's Envy makes it excellent for sipping.
- Cocktails: It also performs well in classic bourbon cocktails, such as an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
